the radiator and fuel cell sharing the same cramped space should result in a rise in fuel temp - could this be an issue or benefit ??

The duct I plan to make should shield the tank from direct contact from the heated radiator air. It still could be an issue though and is something that I intend to keep an eye on.

I picked up some 15x7 Phone Dials on ebay this week. I am not planning to do the 5-lug conversion anytime soon but got a smok'n deal that I could not pass up. Now I just need the 4th. They will be powder coated before going on the car.

I mocked the radiator plumbing for the passenger side before welding in repair panel. You can just barely see the rubber tube connecting to the SS tube at the front of the long. I will need to shorten the SS tube and pull the hose further forward.

Ya, my parents are very good about helping with the car projects. When I was racing they would make a point to drive over once or so a season to crew for the weekend. I try to repay the favors as much as possible. Two christmas' ago my present to my Mother were the parts and labor to rebuild the front suspension on her E-Type. My father and I spent much of the holiday vacation in the garage.

I finally filled the gaping hole in the passenger side long. In order to make sure that everything is straight and that the reinforcement panel fits, I used it as a guide. I made three windows to the weld seam with a hole saw and clamped it down. The floor and pinch seam are already tacked in place at this point.

It was getting late so I put in a few more tacks just to make sure that everything was in place. Before calling it a night I decided that it would be ok to get into the car again. Seems silly but after working bent over the door supports for several days the idea of working from the inside again is something to look forward to. My lower back has been taking a beating. very nice...what size piping is that for the cooling line? ARe you running one on either side?

I am running one on each side. The line to the radiator is 1.5 and the return is 1.75.

Finally...I have all of the rust out of the longs. It is like the last 2 months never happened. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Still a bit of welding to do and I need to install the seat belt mounting lug. I have not decided if I am going to run the plumbing through the passenger side before getting the driver side ready for plumbing. Probably should finish up the passenger side just in case there is an issue that requires changes that I could carry over to the driver side.

Don't let skills (or the lack there of) get in the way of a good idea...I didn't! Just resolve to do it right. Take your time, do the research, throw out bad parts, buy the correct tools and seek assistance when necessary. I had the convenience of having friends who provided some key assistance (and tools) to get me started.

My fiancee's car is an '05 legacy GT with the lower spec version of the 2.5 STi engine. She did not think that it was funny when I called it a spare engine for the PorSti. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

I have not posted an update for a while but not because of the lack of effort or progress, just have not been doing anything that a dozen other people have not already posted a more novel or skillful implementation. So here are the end results...

Installed the driver side cooling line support. Had to cut open the long to get it in.

Worked on the engine plumbing a bit. Cleaned up the crank case vent hoses and rerouted the turbo cooling lines.

I have been spending hours practicing Tig welding Al. It is as challenging as everybody told me it would be. I am making strong welds but not quite as nice looking as I want considering the high profile locations I need to weld on the intercooler and the radiator. This is my creation from this weekend.

I am working on the new oil lines to the turbo and remote oil filter now. And the filter to intake plumbing, and the wiring harness and...

All of the fuel pump and filter brackets use nuserts. I started installing nutserts for the rear valance and will use them for the front valance as well.

I also reinstalled the passenger side door today. I finally appreciated the value of the chassis braces. The door opening was a bit tight and uneven before all of the work on the passenger side. I cranked open the gap until it met the measurements in the manual before welding in the new metal. I was able to remove the shim from the lower hinge which helped the gap at the front of the door. The gap at the back is more even now.

It feels really good to be installing things permanently.
