Is there an easy method for the CHT R&R? I couldnt find anything in a search.

Once out, how can I check it with a digital multimeter?

This is on a 1.7, thanks.

i think you can test it in the car. positive lead on the wire and ground to the chasis. i've recently learned (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) that you set the multimeter to 2k on the ohm meter and look for a reading less than 2, like 1.9 or so. - alhtough i think the #'s are different if its warm.

to get it out, i remember reading somewhere that you have to modify a socket to accomodate the wire....

Go to Brad Anders site.

You can cut or grind a corner of a socket extension to the point of allowing the wire from the CHT to extend thru. Using this item you can remove the CHT carefully. I stripped one once. It was a beotch! Installation is the reverse of removal!

Good luck........ b

Thanks for the info. The CHT is in a very tight place, just under the intake runner, is it possible to get a socket on it without having to remove the intake runner, a universal extension or a 1/4" drive with universal perhaps?

It seems there isn't alot of room there.

I discovered it sits at an angle so a universal is not needed. Yes you can get at it without taking off the runner. Surprisingly enough, the socket & extension will slip right on when you slide it in at the angle allowed while standing on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

You'll find a lot of things like this on a 914. The engineers put a lot of thought into most access's when they designed it. ... you just gotta find'm (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Thanks Bruce and rcrgrl for the tips.
I tested the CHT today in the car, cold, 2.62 k ohms for resistance, Anders site says 2.5 is normal.

I am guessing my unit is ok and within normal range?

As I narrow posibilities for somewhat rough running at freeway speeds and poor gas mileage, I think I need to look at the mps. Mark had it tested a year ago, it was ok but would not hold consistant pressure very long.
