Little security in a used engine unless you have direct first hand knowledge of the specs, use, etc.
Just my $0.02 |

I went through the same situation as you a few years ago. I wanted more power than my 1.7L had to offer but when it came down to it, I just couldn't trust another engine and didn't want to pay the $ for a professional job. Next best step was to pony up $40 for Jake's rebuild video and start shopping/researching the board. Shoptalkforums type 4 board is superior to this one when it comes to engine issues.

waiting on rebuild info and compression # from seller. remember just looking for a solid core . If you are just looking for a core, it may be worth the crap-shoot on this engine. You could pick it up, take off the parts you don't need (carbs) and sell them off. Then, when you get to the bottom of things, you'll see if you have a good core or not. If you could get it for a low enough price, you risk may be minimal. direct link to auction |
