Finally getting back to parting the 74. I am trying to get
the center console out. I have removed the lower dash
pad (knee pad?) unbolt, unscrewed everything I can see.
Do I need to remove the shifter? If so how, the console
is in the way? I know, dumb question but what do you
expect, it took me a hour to get the passenger door open.

Make sure you have the seats and center box out and it will be a lot easier! Remove the shifter knob and twist the consol. It will work out if you have removed all of the screws and panels!

There are only three bolts that hold the console in place. Two up under the dash and one back behind the shifter in the U-shaped metal piece. Once those are out, you just push, pull and twist it out. It's one of those situations where there is a magic spot where it comes out without force, but you'll never find the magic spot, except by accident. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

There's one more under (in front of) the gauge plate in the funky shaped metal bracket. Goes down into the tunnel like the rear screw.

Man, it looks like you got a little frustrated during the removal process! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

I always try to take a deep breath or walk away for awhile before I go into the detsruction mode! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Hope the console came out better than the rest of the interior! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Nope, not fustrated at all. I basically just lifted the the
seats off the ground, no floor in the car. Just trying to
save what parts i can from this car before it goes to the
big scrap yard in the sky (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

This car was in destruction mode when I got it.
