Anybody got any recomendations on auto shipping company's they have used and were happy with? Need to get a car from CA to CO. Just looking for good service, and affordable. Also what whould be the ideal method of chaining the car down for transport, so I can make sure nobody screws up? I was quoted 575, most places, and it seems to be a broker business. Encolsed I think would be too much. TIA

which six did you get?
I wouldn't go with A plus shippers (or something like that). I used them before and it took forever to get the car. never knew what was going on and neither did they. it just appeared one day. enclosed will be very expensive. I just got a quote of $1k to ship my land rover from SF to philly. these people seem reliable and upfront (but haven't used them yet). email ellie at Allstarmove3@aol.com and see what she quotes you. not sure where your car is and if they service that area, but worth a shot. |

I used A-A auto shippers for my 914 from AZ to FL, only about $750 open trailer. their number is (800) 466-6935

I used a company called DAS (Dependable Auto Shippers) I think they are out of Texas. They shipped my 914 in a covered carrier from Bellvue WA to NC for about $1,000. Took a bout 3 weeks to gety here but I was pleased with the service. Was able to track it via the internet along the way.

AAdvantage (which might be the same as A plus or AA) took much longer than promised (5 weeks) to get my car to me, but it was $775 from CA to IL open trailer.
For a couple hundred more you can get a covered carrier as mentioned and I would go that way if I shipped again. |

The number one question to ask:
"Do you own the trucks??" The brokers rank right up there with MCI/Worldcom. They dont do a damn thing but resell somebody elses service. With fuel prices the way they are, I'm betting that things are not cheap. I had the whole Ca./Philly cars thiing going and it was 850$ a car back in Dec. You may want to look into "Intercity" They advertise quite a bit. B |

Why not rent a car dolly and go get it yourself? 914's tow rather well and the trip there and back should take at most 3 days. If you go this route, take I70. Less chance on snow/ice going through the mountain passes. Stop in Vegas and win the $31.8 mil slot jackpot (I donated to it 3 weeks ago)
A buddy who trucks told me that 3 weeks ago the fuel surcharge went up to $0.16 per mile. Who knows what it is now.... Your fuel/hotel bill would be a lot less than a trucking companys. You would get the car faster and safer than trusting someone else. $0.02 from someone who has more miles towing 914's than driving them (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Wow, thanks for all the great leads! I should have this figured out by tomrrow. I have done the drive in my current 914 before, and it is an option, but work and seller's schedules are playing a big role this time. I got a quote for 575 for an open carrier door to door, but I'm a little leary, since he was a broker and this car is a conversion with a front oil cooler and low to the ground ect. I will do some more homework, and finalize tomorrow. Thanks again to Sammy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif) , who went and looked at the car and put up with my relentless email questions. I will for sure post pics once it's at it's new home. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) Ferg.

I used DAS to get my 993 from Texas to Cal. Covered and delivered on time without issues. You can even track it online. If you drop it off / pick it up at one of their "terminals" you save some money as well.
