I was surfing and ran across this link.
http://encycl.opentopia.com/term/Porsche_114 Reading, I am thinking is this the 1st ever Porsche car built personally by Porsche. Get this. Mid engine but water cooled. Wonder where the working drawings or prints are. |

I may be mistaken, but I think that one of the early 356 type cars, at least the prototype, was mid engined VW type plant.

I may be mistaken, but I think that one of the early 356 type cars, at least the prototype, was mid engined VW type plant. I think there was one made. Rich I emphasize because of the number 114 used (14). Made me notice. Ugly car now but then may have been a cool design. Probably worth more than a few marks. |

Read more carefully. The 114 was never built. Just a concept and drawings. But as Rich said, the first 356 (known as No. 1) was mid-engined. But changed to rear engine for production.

356 #1 is a mid engine & what has been said here about her is 100% accurate. To difficult/expensive to produce as a middie so they flipped it around. Type 114 was never built & as far as I know Porsche has never built a v10 until the CGT. Mind you now that they have a V10 what's to stop someone from actually building a 114? Read more carefully. The 114 was never built. Just a concept and drawings. But as Rich said, the first 356 (known as No. 1) was mid-engined. But changed to rear engine for production. Sorry to point out to anyone but what I typed, was in fact a question. Typed earlier by me. "Reading, I am thinking, is this the 1st ever Porsche car built personally by Porsche"? Maybe I should have said the 1st to be DESIGNED to be a Porsche. Some of you guys sure are getting to be a bunch of nit pickers. actually, the first real midengine car porsche ever build was the "P-Wagen" (stands for Porsche Wagen).
in the early 30s, he started a company called "Hochleistungs-Fahrzeugbau GmbH" and started working on racecars. he then partnered up with "Auto Union" to build the "P-Wagen". the car featured a V16 with 4.36 Liter displacement and a roots compressor bringing the HP output to 295HP @ 4500 rpm ... I didn't see it with a quick google search, but didn't a type-c just go up for auction or for sale recently and they thought it would be the most expensive car exchange to date? I don't think I ever heard what happened with that, but I swear it was either an AU type-c or type-d designed by Porsche.

Actually I don't see how the 114 could be a mid engine, much less a mid engine V10. Something does not seem right in looking up the descriptions. "An upgrade from VW's 1.0 to a 1.5" is what is stated. That leads me to believe it's actually a 4cyl ass dragger. Besides, look at it... how could the engine be in the middle? If I'm wrong someone please correct me.
The 360 Cistalia was the car Ferry built to gain some cash & help the design firm. I'm not sure but I think they delivered it just after the old man got out of jail. The 1939 Auto Union Typ D V12 was determined to not be the French GP winner, rather a runner-up in that race. After the correct provenance was established, Christie's accepted sealed bids for it but apparently the minimum bid was not reached so the AU was not sold. It's sure to appear at a later date. I guess my $51,000. bid was not enough to secure it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . I mean, who's gonna work on it and it's not like you can find parts on eBay for it. I took these pics at the AutoStadt in Wolfsburg last year...similiar to the one above. The wheels on this little thing were huge. I couldn't imagine driving something like it...

Guys.... Porsche's first car was electric with 4 in-wheel motors.
The first car he "designed." It was built under a design firm that he was working for in his youth. Down the street from where Hitler was failing out of "greeting card university" or some such. My, how we've come full circle. The future is once again, electric, in-wheel motors. |

Don't forget that one of Porsche's earliest designs was for Mercedes.
