LE sat in a gentlemans' garage in OR for over 20 years, rarely driven. 72K orig miles. When you get close, there are small scars here and there and some road rash, but I am amazed how the black paint held up! Dent doctor also did a great job.
It did take me over two years of meticulous cleaning, inside out, engine, wheel wells,... Turns out the humid air in OR is friendly to all the rubber which was also in really good shape. Door speakers - what was wierd at parade in preservation, they did not share score sheets, just posted results. These door speakers look so natural in black I've never pursued replacements. |

My first post on this forum. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Coming from the 911 world as I am also the proud owner of a 993 4S (member on Rennlist)
My first 914! It is a beautiful red 1973 2.0l. I have driven it for the first time this weekend taking advantage of a mild and sunny 2 days. However I find the brakes weak and that is the first thing I will address (I know it is old technology and one needs to press the brake pedal much harder than on a modern car). Next I want to have the engine checked for my own comfort. Perhaps a compression test? Check the valve adjustments? I am not hands on and not a mechanical expert so I will bring it to a specialist but any recommendation on what to check on a 101k Miles engine will be welcome. Chris in the Netherlands (for now) Nice one Chris! I'm waiting for a friend who's into Porsches for a final check next Wednesday before I hand the cash for the Silver grey 73 model I'm looking for. What area do you live? (me, on the Veluwe). Menno |
