Well now this sucks..
I got my car put back together.. and I managed to f*ck up the right rear wheel bearing while installing it....... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) Everything else is done, including the alignment. Now I get to do it again.. before the AX on Sunday. |

Well damn! I was looking the car over yesterday and discovered both rear tires were worn through the top layer of rubber on the inside. No steel showing through yet, but now I "gotta" get new tires. Anyone with experience with the Yokohama ES 100s?

Curt,
I like the ES100's, they are the tires I AX on. I'm starting my third season on them (they won't last the whole season) but over all have good tire wear. I liked them so much I got another set for my wife's 944. I can't comment on how they preform in the rain or how the road noise is because I have a set of Falken ZE-512 I drive on the streets. They are an okay (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yellowsleep[1].gif) all season tire. If Clay can shame me into driving the 914 instead of the 911, I'll have the Falken's because the ES100's don't have much tread left and are slightly flat spotted. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Bring the 914.....not the taildragger "Donor Car"... You will have more fun in the 914. Think of it as an extended Time Trial. You know that the 914 handles better, thats why you AX it and not the 911. Now if I could only convince you to put the 3.2 in the 914..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) |

Anyone with experience with the Yokohama ES 100s? Curt - I have two Kumho Ecsta's (711) that are 215/55 R15 that are brand new. They're yours for picking up. They fit with plenty of clearance on Sparky - not sure if they will fit a stock fender well - anybody know? .. |

Wow, thanks Joe. I had to roll the fender lip for the 205s to fit. Doubt the 215s would work.

Ok.. I got my car put back together... finally.. last night about 4 PM. Took it to the PCA AX today, I had all of 5 miles on the brakes.
Bloody brake pads... Now it has a ear piercing squeal when braking. Time to break out the smurf squeezins to get it to stop squeaking. And I have to fix the fan on the oil cooler too. Something got into it and is making noise... It never ends. But on the bright side... We leave on Friday. |

Joseph, good to see you and Rae on Sunday, and thanks again for the tires. Got them mounted today and I can't believe they actually fit without rolling the fender lip. I never dreamed 215s would fit on VW spec western wheels with the wrong backset but they do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Kuhmo 55s are actually a tad taller than the Yoko 60s.
Talimena, we're on our way. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/red914.jpg) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/351.gif) |

Ok.. DFW Caravan Info.
For those of you who are coming from the DFW area, we will meet in McKinney at the IHOP located on the northbound service road of 75, just north of Hwy 380. I plan on leaving there around 2PM, hopefully, so we can avoid rush hour traffic. Is someone bringing a Grill to cook the burgers? Oh. and remember to bring your (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) of choice as Oklahoma has 3.2 beer... AKA beer flavored water. |

Only beer you buy in the grocery store is 3.2%. The beer in the liqour store is 6%. Just like Tx!!
I have a friend who lives in Talihina that has offered her grill, so no need |

Curt - cool those 215's fit... now you got a bit of SPARKY rollin'...
Yes, plenty of good Okie beer available at all the finer Talihina liquor stores, but don't expect your Amstel & Sam Adams on the shelves - of course you can always squeak by with some texas shiner bock if you're desperate. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) And don't expect the Talihina FLAPS to have any Brad Penn racing oil on hand. But of real concern is to not get caught in the middle of Talihina's Rush Hour Traffic on Friday @ 5:00, which I hear is a real bitch - air cooled Porsches beware! However, once the school bus and the 3 pickups go by, it shouldn't be too bad... .. |

She's all shined up and ready to go. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)
The 914 is completely embarrassed since my wife beat me in her 944 last weekend at our Time Trial (by 0.5 second). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) But I'll let her spend some time with her favorite tool and that will make her feel better. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif) See you guys tomorrow.
