Alright! Go Rick, Go!! Mike, sorry you can't make it- but a birthday party for a five year old is a blast too! Maybe we can get together soon somehow.

Did my third autocross today. Man, I suck, but it sure was fun. Next week is in a better (bigger and smoother) location. I'm afraid I'm a very poor representative of what 914 can do. Somebody better be able to hand it back to all these Miatas and Minis that seem to dominate.

I saw Rusty this morning. He is finishing up the trophies and other awards. All system are "GO" for launch.

Get a ride from Betty at the autocross on Sunday. She is so smooth that she looks like she is just out for a Sunday drive when she is on the AX course. Now if only she would let me make her motor more powerful.....

Spent the day cleaning up two 914s for the trip. We also went over to Travis and Robyn Howard's house. (They both lurk here, even though Robyn drives a waterpumper). Helped Travis replace the throttle body on his 74 2.0. It is so worn, that the throttle plate literally clacks side to side when wide open. He had to put aluminum tape over the bleed hole in the plate to get it to idle down.

Oh, and we got the door pads from James and Heidi (morphenspectra) for Betty's car. He did a really quick job for us, and they are just beautiful. But her car smells of fiberglass resin inside right now. Hopefully it will go away fairly quickly.

After work tomorrow I wash and wax my 914/6.

See y'all in a day or two!

Well it's final , I will not be driving my freshly painted blue and gulf orange 914 to the RCR this week. John jentz and Larry "904SVO" and Blake worked all day Saturday with me but we could not complete enough to make the car drivable. I'll post some pics and bring some with me to Huntsville next week. I will be driving over in my 912 E as I know that will make the trip.

FINALLY took Huey out for a ride today. There are still a hundred things that need to be done to make him the way we want, but overall he's running well. Still chasing some carb issues - keeps popping out of the carbs and has a small hesitation on acceleration - but overall pretty good. But it did tell us one thing....there will most likely be a bunch of stops on the way....not the most comfortable on long trips!

Hmmm....I guess not nearly ready to go:

wheels polished - Not yet
oil change - engine just installed, so not needed yet
new oil pressure sender line - actually may need, but not happening..
fix fog light - no fog lights
paint Bursch exhaust... how about touch up all paint dings and nicks on car?
wax and detail exterior - Not Yet
new wiper blades - Hmm good idea...

left to do:
polish wheels
detail interior
detail exterior
figure out what the heck the noise in the front suspension it
play around with the carbs so I don't have to worry about them anymore
fix front fog light/horn grills
...and may as well hook up horn
find reg and insurance card for the dealer tag I'm using
....and the whole list of things I can't think of at 11pm on Sunday.

No problem. List is usually longer this close to an event. I feel ahead of schedule!!

Up date: The engine was in last night, filled with coolant and running without axles and shifter. I had an oil leak. A very bad one and could tell where it was coming from. I cleaned it up and placed card board under the engine over night thinking I could tell where the drip was coming from in the morning. I came out to the garage this morning to find a pool of coolant on the card board. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

It seams I didn't get a very large '"O" ring sealed. The coolant was leaking all over the top of the engine and running down the front. I had to pull the engine back out today and fix the oil and coolant leak.

The oil leak was caused by the new lip seal I installed on the pump. It didn't fit very tight. I pushed it in with my thumbs. The 8-10 Bar of oil pressure pushed it out. I was able to dissamble the oil pump and push it back out without damage.
I glued it in this time with JB Weld 4 minute epoxy.

I spend about 12 hours pulling stuff off to access the "O" ring for the coolant and putting everything back in and clean up the mess.

The engine is back in the car. I need to reconnect the cables and electrical connections in the morning. It should be ready to start in about an hour. After I know everything checks out I will need to install the axles and shifter and put a couple miles on it before Wednesday morning.

Hey Ramblers-
The SCCA folks just put up their on-line registration for Sunday's autocross. Here is the link:

RCR Autocross Pre-registration

click on "Pre-register" for TVR #3 and the bottom of the table.

If you are driving in the autocross and you get the chance to preregister, I'm sure it will speed the "in-processing" experience.

OK, we're getting close...

What is the caravan plan from anyone heading down through Charlotte, down I-85, then what's up with the Atlanta group? when, where, what, etc.

Just tell us and we'll be there! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Bob, you may be the only one of the group on 85 between Charlotte and Atlanta. I think the GA group is gonna rendezvous in Rome or north of there (sometime near noon would get everyone here in time for the tech session). So you can cut across on GA-20 (near Road Atlanta) or go all the way into town and around 285 and back up I-75 to reach the meeting spot- like Armuchee.

Al, sorry the teener won't be ready. bring pictures!

Rick, I'm wearing my foil hat for ya!

Clay, I'm ALREADY embarrassed!

Eric, those calipers are art!

Hey Clay, are you and the rest of the group still willing to help me haul 4 wheels and tires down to Rusty. I will be driving instead of trailering so I could sure use some help. Also heard a rumor that y'all want to get together for dinner Wed. night here in Memphis.

Keep your foil hats one. I had a set back but I'm back on track so far. No point of double posting so here's a link.

Question: Is anyone bringing stuff to swap?

I'm asking because I have a ton of parts from a '72 donor car I picked up about a year ago and I'm bringing parts to swap. Large stuff includes a tail shift transmission, a set of steel bumpers, 2 seats (no rails) that need to be recovered, and a set of steel wheels with tires (good tread, age unknown). I'll bring the big stuff only if someone is interested, otherwise I'll save my back.

I also have a set of aluminum door sills and a bunch of stuff I've forgotten about.

Who needs what and what do you have to swap?
