After you know where the button is, you don't need to jack up the front of the car or remove the splash shield. Just crank the steering wheel to the right, reach into the wheel well, find the master cylinder, and push the reset button.

I pulled away from a stop sign and noticed this light flashing. I drove right back home, but everything seemed fine. I turned it off and restarted it and now it doesn't flash any more.

Isn't it a brake light?

To be honest I think you went a bit far by removing the entire gauge just to stop the little light coming on! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

I don't get the joke... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

If you crank the steering wheel all the way to the right, there will be room in the left-front wheel well to look into the area where the brake master cylinder lives. Once you know where the reset button is on the M/C, you can just reach in through the wheel well and push the button, no problem!
