So, I finally got a chance to talk to my friend who sold the car to the BJ seller originally and he had some interesting claims to make. First, he claims that the interior was more stock and that the steering wheel must have been changed by the last owner before the auction. Second, he claims that the car sold for $25K under the table. He claims that it is common practice to have an agreement to sell a car for an agreed price at the auction to lower the takes and fees, while outside the auction the buyer actually pays a pre agreed price that is much more.

He sold THAT car to the person who took it to BJ for $20K

I am in no way saying that I am subscribing to this story, just that it was told (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I'm confused..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Are you saying that the car at BJ sold for $25K after the auction?

I smell that Bullshit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) from 1,000 miles away. No way, didn't happen. That guy is trying to save face by lying his way out of losing $10,000.

The guy making the claim is the one who made $20K on the deal. I would suspect he would only lie to keep the prices of his 914 fleet high. He sells over 15 a year.

$12,500 ,Looks alot like my car! with a few changes.
75' Factory Black

It's more than normal, but I'll guess $12,700. The 914 stereotype still remains and this may hinder a higher price

The previous owner (IMO) seems to have been a bit vain/superficial with the add-ons.

Hm...

CCLINALLCAPS?

That's weird to see you posting in all caps for your whole post. That's interesting about auction houses lifting fees to get a car sold; I have only dealt with the wrecked car type auctions where if it doesn't go for the reserve they just list it again next week.

I've only had maybe 2 L041 914's in my life that were actual factory black cars. Seen a bunch and owned a few painted black of course. I wonder how many L041 914's were produced for each year/total? Time to visit the faq page.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

The new owner/buyer of this car has stated a thread about it on FerrariChat.com's Porsche section. He says he had no idea what he was buying.

Said he paid $10K.

I didn't tell him about this thread..........yet (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

Link? I am interested in knowing the truth. My friend is a stereotypical "used car salesman" and I find it difficult to believe his story.

Ok, Here I am, the new owner of this 914, just registered on this site and read the whole thread.... quite interesting, the whole Barrett-Jackson conspiracy theory and all.. Anyway, here is the truth. This is the first Barrett-Jackson auction that I ever attended. Was looking for an old vette, when I stumbled across this 914, had a couple 944's in the 80's and always liked the 914's from a distance, but really didn't know much about them, (still don't). I think there were only 2 people that bid on it, and when I hit 10k the bidding stopped. (It was early in the morning in Vegas) They tried to have me up my own bid, and after a few confusing moments, they guy that was trying to get me to up my bid was told that "He" had the winning bidder, that is when he came back to me to tell me I had the high bid...Anyway, The car looks like a fun driver that I think I can have some fun in for a year or so, sell and make a buck or 2, I would like to make it more original , and am looking for idea's. I had noticed that I hadn't seen a center console with 1 gauge like mine, only 3,... may want to update that, and yes, the door speakers are horrible.. Did notice my steering wheel was different, but thought it was original..oh well!! Can you guys give me some idea's as to where to get some of those parts?? ... After the 10% buyers premium I paid $11,000 and had the car shipped back to Ohio, where it will basically sit until Spring....no side deals, I did do some research to see it was from Florida and the prior dealer had it on Ebay a couple times and turned down a $13,000- $14,000 bid ( It was a Buy it Now or best offer format). Before that, it was in Pennsylvania...Any more info, please let me know. Thanks

If you go to the Originality Forum ( http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showforum=44 ) there are tons of pictures of original cars. Good luck. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Well it looks like you got a very nice car to work wth. 914s are by far one of my favorite cars to drive. This site has all the information and contacts you will ever need in regard to this car.
