The 76 was built without any VW plates. If you look in the front trunk you will not see any of the VIN plates that you see in the earlier years.
I thought that they (76) were all built in the Porsche factory not VW. Someone will correct me I am sure.

wasn't the 76 year technically just left over 75s they got rid of (aka late 75's)?

could explain the shortcuts. Why bother with the details if they are just trying to get rid of the shells.

That doesn't explain Mike's '73 that also is silver on the front firewall. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

I forgot he said a 73. Idk now.

My car is a silver 73, so it seems normal to me.

maybe pat can chime in here

Correct, I think Craig meant:

76's don't cary the VW Type47 sticker because they were assembled at Porsche as 4cyl's right along with the 911's of the day because they needed something to fill the gap before the 924 came out (I know, the 912 fits in there somewhere as well). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

The final bid was $10,000 and yes, this is a factory original black L041... I think to car got all of the money there was for it.... There's a sellers fee of 8% and a buyers fee of 10%.....

second on the gray paint and not silver. if i recall my white 75 had grey in there too.

Same with my '72, though someone must have screwed up & gotten a little dusting of bahia red on the forward edges. Wasteful employee! Should have been fired!

Seriously, I have no idea why there is a "dusting" of red. The dash is a separate unit, not like most other cars. It probably was assembled in another area & brought to line at the appropriate time. I don't get.

Someone still got a nice driver for a respctable price. It'll never be a concours candidate (at a non-regional level), but it's still a good starting point.

The paint on the jambs, etc is obviously noy factory so it'll never be a major player - unless the new owner starts over.

Wonder if it started live as a east coast car, anyone notice the plug under the vin sticker for "rustproofing" rusty jones strikes again (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) speaking of rust, is that a globby weld or rust bubbling at the "point where the lower rear quarter meets the door jamb...

Nice car though, pretty close to right on the money...

Been watching the Barrett-Jackson on TV. Don't really know why, I guess it's a little like watching a train wreak. I think this B-J is pretty weak. ALOT of re-creation, clones, Pace-Cars & pimp-mobiles. The Hemi's must have stayed home.

the 914 goes for $10k, does not get televised & a stock, 1980 fox bodied Mustang sells for $50K & gets televised, because Betty Davis owned it... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Maybe Julia Roberts should go out & buy a Renault "Le Car". She might be able to sell it in 5 yrs for $100k... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

The bidding on the Bette Davis car was totally bullshit and RIGGED. It was sitting at $10K and dead. Only one guy wanted it. Then Steve Davis the Prez of B-J started bumping it himself knowing that the one guy wanted it and would keep bidding. And Steve Davis made a point that the guy bidding was a friend of his. What a nice friend Steve is - cost the guy $40K. Total BS
