I was planning to go with 356 drum brakes...they are aluminum.

Except, i was serious. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

He's going to mount the 930s and he's going to hate them. Mark my words, you heard it here first.

Like i said, BTDT ( <- stands for "Been There, Done That"), the 930s suck.
You'll never be able to get them "feel" right.

Why?
Are they to much? He is upgrading the motor so he may be going a bit faster...

Seriously...what is the issue?

Rich

I have them on my 911 and really like them a lot. You do need to run a much bigger master cyl ... 23 mm ... Mine did not look that nice though ...

Yes. I know. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I wasn't referring to a technical problem. I know how to mount them. I know what MC to run. I know all the technical aspects to make them work.
BTDT.

Then, you run them hard and you realize that in a 914, which is significantly lighter than a 930, you can't modulate them the way you want to. They don't grip well with little pressure, then they grip too hard. Tried different pads and compounds. Some made it better some made it worse.
Never got to the point where they felt comfortable.

Finally switched to boxster calipers front and rear and had instant success with grip, feel and modulatingability (i'm making up words here (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) )

All this on a 914/6 car set up for club racing with a warmed over 300+ HP 3.0L motor ...

Here's what I plan on using on my 3.0 conversion. The slotted Carrera rotors were sent to Diversified Cyrogenics and were "frozen". The fronts are C2 fronts and the rears are C2 Turbo rears. Plan on using Hawk street compound on the street and a racing compound on the track. (not autocross) Also have a Tilton brake adjustable valve mounted between the seats for rear adjustment......

While beautiful, they are huge for the small pad area. I understand wanting to build with as many new Porsche parts as possible. It should be a nice car.

But those calipers look like a bad example of over complicated engineering. Four pieces bolted together, just scream movement and flex. I imagine you will get a better feel from late Model Brembos, since they have benefited from more modern materials and designs. Plus they would be even lighter, have staggered pistons, be more compact, and just look more elegant.

Since he is using them under Fuchs alloys, probably, I guess it won't matter.

That makes sense...so the larger setup was in fact to large.
To binary no matter what you did.
The boxster brakes are just right...or at least not as on/off and the 930 setup...

BTW, can you write this in German "modulatingability"
Those were the words that pissed me off trying to read the morning paper over there...all the newspaper writers thought up new words every day....threw me completely off trying to figure out what the hell they meant.

Odd... same pad (345 block) and piston sizes (I believe) as the Boxsters. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)
