With a 300-mile range and 45-minute QuickCharge, the $49,900 Model S can carry five adults and two children in quiet comfort – and you can charge it from any outlet, without ever stopping for gas. World’s first mass-produced electric vehicle offers performance, efficiency and unrivaled utility, making it the only car you’ll ever need.

Hello and Congratulations!

We have received your $5,000 reservation payment on March 27, 2009. You have reserved a place in the production run of Tesla's up and coming all-electric sedan. Please note your deposit is fully refundable less a 1% cancellation fee.

Our sedan will continue the legacy of the Roadster, fusing cutting edge electric technology with style and panache.

I would like to introduce myself and Adam Slusser to you as your Tesla Motors contacts. We work in the Los Angeles showroom and look forward to meeting you in the showroom or at one of our Model S Owner events!

In the coming months, Tesla will be updating the website to include a Model S Owners Area. In this Owners Area, you will be able to connect with other owners and see exclusive updates on the progress of Model S. You can expect to see the sedan in person in our showroom later this summer, and test drive Model S in 2010!

In the meanwhile, I welcome you to visit the Los Angeles showroom anytime. We have a full service area here and the Roadsters are absolutely phenomenal to see and experience in person. If you haven't had the opportunity to learn about the Roadster, it is an absolutely incredible car to drive while you're waiting for, and in an addition to the sedan. (Also, the Roadster is available for delivery this year and will bump you up on the wait list for Model S.)

Thank you again for your interest and support. There is so much to look forward to as we continue driving innovation forward! Stay tunned to the website for updates, and we will look forward to reconnecting soon!

Best,

Kyrstin Munson

Congrats (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) , great looking car and doesn't use a drop of gas. Out of curiosity, how much does it cost to actually charge the car? I would imagine not near as much as a full tank of gas, but the comparison would be interesting.

the cars shape reminds me a little of aston martin styling!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

Bob, you and your toys! Yes, that's a tinge of envy in my voice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I hope this doesn't mean you have to go back to the drawing board w/ your new house, to add more garage space!

Very cool car. Congrats. Hope the wait isn't terribly long.

Oh, are you getting a solar car port?

I was just saying today at work that is an excellent price point for the car. Congratulations on your purchase. I bet they will sell a boat load at that price.

If I had not just bought 2 new 09 jetta tdi's I would do it. I am still considering it as 2011 my jetta will be getting a little long in the tooth.

Not to be a wet blanket but that is about what they said they would sell the roadster for too in the beginning.

$1. for a charge for 120 miles. Unreal. Superpower full. And stupid GM had a great Electric car. If they where not so full of shit and just worked on batteries they would have had it. This goes right with what the president wants to do. Put jobs in clean energy manufacturing, it gives So. California jobs in our old dirty aerospace factories. Right time, right car, and right country.

The roadster where going to be $70,000 to the very first people that paid full and $90,000 plus I think for the deposit people. If I remember right. This time there will be a big factory making lots of cars. This company is real. They have shown that. They will get the money from the government. More from investors. And they will go to town.
The roadster is $101,500. - $7,500 tax rebate. roadsters are in production 0 to 60 3.9 sec

i'm pretty sure that ohm's law does not agree that you could fully charge a 300 mile battery off of a 120v outlet in 45 minutes [well if that 120v outlet was a 1500 amp outlet maybe]

and where do you get those battery packs that you can change out in 5 min on your road trips across country?

Great product and you are a good patriot for supporting such a nice product. It must have magic batterys though. I couldn't justify the cost of the battery replacement it will require.

I have two v6 fieros, a k5 86 blazer and a 90 3/4 ton suburban. My wife has a new honda, she's a little old school teacher. When I met her she was driving a 69 camaro in 70. Aaaannnnyway I only drive about 7k miles a year total. Thats in texas I change oil because I feel guilty that it's just been setting too much in my cars.

I tried to justify building a ev but the batteries are not there yet in my opinion. A close neighbor made a electric s10 in 89, It had 12 batteries and used a manual tranny, it had a 50 mile limit if you go about 50mph, it made the waco paper. He says if you deplete the batteries past about 1/2 way with todays batteries they won't last very long. Most of my trips to town are about 75 miles roundtrip so I will wait on the technology to come up some.

Right now he thinks the cheap way for transportation is to make your own diesel and use it in older diesel cars and trucks like the 12v dodge.
He makes his diesel for about 1.05

They could be mistaken but I read on the club that this car is made by lotus. I guess we are now supporting foreign car makers?

this is the way of the future! They are getting 349 million in grants from the government to build it.

As for the volt and competition forget it! this thing has style, power, and made in the good ol usa. (note I am guessing the volt will be made in mexico)

If I sounded negative about the initial price point of the roadster... I just hope they dont do the same thing... and btw it was 50K not 70 I still have the article from the news paper that made me go sign up somewhere.

the roadster has nothing on the S as far as practicality goes.

May be cheap to drive per mile for electricity but watt (what) will be the real cost per mile? 300 mile per charge sounds great. If the battery packs can take 200 cycles thats 60000 miles though I expect the range to decrease a little bit with each charge cycle so at the battery life end you maybe can go 150 miles. So maybe the total miles this battery pack will push you is 45000 miles. What will the pak cost? is $12,000 reasonable? If that the case then batteries will cost 26 cents a mile. Of couse I'm just making wild ass assumptions about all these numbers and would be all over an electric car as I only have to drive 2 miles to work. I'd even be all over getting the electric motor, controls and batt pak for one of my 914s. Anyone know the figures for battery cost, electricity cost, charges cycles and all that so we can figure out what it will cost to operate this thing? On the other hand I own an unfinished, undriven 914 (huge pile of parts) so what do I care about cost?

The Tesla looks pretty good. We had a few bigwigs leave to go over there and work, probably a good move.
What about the Chrysler EVs? We keep getting written off when these will probably beat the volt to production!

Congratulations. I sincerely hope Tesla is able to pull it off. If they are able to get the government financing they need, the S appears on paper and in pictures to be a Volt beater. They've done a nice job styling the car. The rear hatch is interesting, as is the ability to swap battery packs quickly.

Do you know if they developed the entire car from scratch or are they leveraging on someone's platform as they did with the Roadster (using a re-engineered Lotus chassis just like the Chrysler EV posted above)

Someone above commented about the 45min charge on 120V; the 45min charge requires a 480V outlet.

I'm surprised we've not seen more development of small electric or hybrid fleet vehicles. The US Postal Service delivery vehicles for example seem like they could be ideal for such applications. Even if they only had a 40 mile range.

Thanks for stepping up to bat and making a deposit.

I have hopes that Tesla makes it as a company. They are "real" about producing an electric car and it's not just a PR stunt like what Chevy has done.

I don't know what batteries are in the Tesla, but the latest batteries in my hobby (giant scale radio control aircraft), A123 batteries are extremely durable, can be charged very very fast, and the voltage does not fall off untill it's around 90-95% depleted. Those are also the batteries that fuel the killacycle. Unlike Li-Po batteries, they can be charged and discharged at somewhere around 50-80C, they have about 2000 useable cycles in them, and they should be/come down in price as they are used more and more. DeWalt used them in a 36V packs (10 cells) for some of their tools and we picked these units up for $100.00 on evilbay, so $10/batt was/is not bad. They are 3.6V/2300mAh. If you had ten in series, you can charge them by connexting them to three 12V car batteries in series, that's how durable they are. No real heat to speak of, no fear of explosion and burning (like Li-Pos). I am sure these batteries and further developments of them are used in industrial machines, including heavy, in large numbers these days.

Oh, and congrats on the outlook to owning one of those cars, it does look to be a very nice and sound investment.

I am curious Bob, you live here in SoCal, does it have AC?

The 300 miles does sound good but isn't that based on a best case? I mean if you use all that power, like my golf cart if you keep a WOT your not going to still get 300 miles per charge. Right? Or is that based on a max draw. Thanks
