After replacing the Master Cylinder, and putting everything back together I just noticed that my brake lights are on all the time... when I put in the new M/C I noticed that the electrical sensor was different on the new one so I unscrewed the old one, pulled off the new one from the new M/C and screwed the old sensor onto the new M/c....sounds like it's grounded?
can I just un-plug this sensor? or will the brake lights then not work? or will I get a warning light on the dash... help! -Adam |

if the /4 is like the 911 and 914.6, the brake lights are turned -off- by the lever microswitch in the pedal box. if the lever is on the wrong side of the actuator disk, the lights will stay on. it has nothing to do with the MC.
that's IF it's the same, which i donno. but it's an easy thing to check ... |

It is--this is exactly what happens. The arm for the brake light switch goes onto the other side of the metal disk on the brake pushrod. Check Haynes for photos, you can just see the position of the arm.

QUOTE(7391420 @ Mar 1 2004, 11:03 AM) please tell me I dont need to take the M/C out to flip it back over.... nah. pull the carpet, pull the pedal board, and 5 minutes with a straight-blade screwdriver to loosen the microswitch and reset the lever - tops. |

as usuall you guys were right on, took five minutes and all is well again. Thanks!
BTW, it did seem as if the lever was right on the edge of the washer where it sits so I bent it inward just a bit and now it seems more secure. I am thinking that maybe driving with the lever flipped downward pushed it in a bit, anyway it works perfectly now |
