Yeah, the 914 is small enough and has a short enough wheel base that you can work both the brake pedal and the bleed screw by yourself. You need to be a bit of a contortionist (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) to have a hand on the bleed screw wrench and get a hand or foot on the brake pedal, but it can be done. The worst is the passenger rear, where you need to use a broom handle as an extension to push on the brake pedal. Pete Klager '75 914 1.8L |

get speed bleeders. You will like them. Rich if you say so. i will ,are they idiot proof?. i checked out the web site , what size fits a 914 more importantly how do they work? small ball inside that prevents air from entering. You fill the reservoir...put a hose on the bleeder and into a jar. open bleeder pump pedal slowly, full strokes, until you get solid fluid out of each bleeder. Rich |

o.k the speed bleeders are in the mail. i was going to bleed the brakes with a helper ( my reluctant wife) tomorrow. here is my question if i bleed them now and then put on the speed bleeders will i have to go thru the whole process again or should i wait, install the bleeders and then put my wife thru this. That is a good way to do it if you have a compressor/regulator handy at home. At the track you'd need it there too or a air tank/regulator. My '74 doesn't have the overflow hose. It's like it never had one. Where the hose is supposed to be, it is flat and smooth like it was made that way. Does anyone else have a resevoir made like this????
At least the pressure bleeder/spray bottle type is more portable than an compressor when not at home. |
