Mike

Toronto traffic can be a real bitch on a Friday night.
Hit Toronto before 2:30 pm or after 6 pm.

You will see signs for the 407/ETR toll highway, it's done by photo and they bill you $25 each way. Many Americans who don't plan to come back soon just don't pay.
It can be faster across Toronto in rush hour but you have get back on the highway 401 when it ends. Time it right and it's no faster than the 401.

I would like to be there as a spectator on Saturday. I do have a little portable BBQ, it uses those mini propane canisters, I could bring it along.

I'll drive up from Georgetown Saturday morning. Since I'm planning to pull the trans and reinstall I'll try to get there early. If I leave by 7am I should be there around 9am. Or is that too early?

I'll bring a sleeping bag in case we run into trouble.

If the forecast changes to nothing but rain on Saturday, I may pull the trans on Friday night and just bring it. The 914 has seen too much rain already this year.

Where can we get the recommneded trans oil in Toronto?

Best to pull it and bring it up Saturday. I don't have a lot of room once we get the guys in here. Plus it's cutting it fine, could be done but....
I'm up at 6am every day.

Georgetown is a two hour drive.

Nice dry shop, heat if we need it.

The way my map is telling me to go is the East rout that takes 81 all the way up to 401 in CA and then West to your house. Is this not a good route? It says it is shorter and it dodges ALL of the traffic places like Buffalo and Toronto.

The route is fine.
The 401 doesn't go above/around Toronto it goes right through it. The GTA or Greater Toronto area is really several smaller cities that have grown into one big city. Going through at rush hour won't kill ya, but it could add 1/2 to 1 hour to your travel time.

If you're meeting up with Dave it should be before Toronto, he knows and will guide you. Maybe grab dinner and wait a bit or just plow through and hope traffic isn't too bad.

Kim makes a nice mild chilli, kids and her no like the hot...I like 5 alarm chilli, well maybe 4 alarm.

EVERYONE use the Google map link I posted (a few posts back) and print out my directions and phone number. Google maps is the only one that is 100% for sure correct. Honda GPS is crap, so is onstar and Magellan. Tom-tom I believe I was told is correct, but make sure it is before you leave. Mapquest is almost 10 miles (15km+) in the wrong direction.
My house is not that hard to find with directions, without them you may never find it.

Doesn't Dave live in Burford, which is West of Lake Ontario, but Mike is coming through from the East side of Lake Ontario? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Or I'm missing something.

Getting excited! What's the recommended gear oil, and where would I find it? I'm making a trip to Princess Auto tomorrow to try to find the 12 spline adapter for the CVs.

Yup, davep is in Burford. So if those two want to hook up then Dave has to drive East past Port Hope or Mike has to drive through Buffalo and TO (not the football player). I will bring the grill, coming from Milton on Saturday morning.

It's an M8 bit, can be hard to find, snap-on for sure but about $30, could also try carquest and napa.

I'll likely just take the East route then and meet Dave at your house. I have a phone so if I get lost I will call. Unless you are like the other 2 places I had clinic and have no cell phone signal (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) I want to avoid TO and Buffalo.

East route through New York state and Kingston?
Takes longer 2-3hours I think, but it's been awhile
Way better scenery. Watch out for mule deer!

Toronto rush hour traffic can be bad, but not LA or Washington, DC bad.
If it's not rush hour you'll sail right through.

Two new cell towers not far from here.

Looked at both routes via google maps. Google says they are about the same, but my vote would be through Kingston. If I could avoid it, I would rather avoid Buffalo/Hamilton/Toronto on a (potentially rainy) Friday night.

hands down - best route from PA is through syracuse/kingston. Easy directions - head north then turn left when you run out of road (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) For goodness sake don't even think about going around the west end of lake.

good question about the gear oil. Mark you had a swepco guy out for the last aircooled meet. Any chance you can line him up? I've had no luck what so ever finding a retailer in my neck of the woods.

Wobbletop - don't sweat the M8 bit for the weekend. I have one and I assume that many of the other guys will too. You'll need one sooner or later though. I assume that you are still driving and dropping on site?

I don't know I'll try, but for you I'll part with a bottle and I'll replace it next time Steve (Swepco rep) drops by.
