Those remind me of some similar wheeled Luge/Carts running in a GFR Cement 1/2 pipe set-up on the slopes at Park City back in the 1970s - I have no idea if they still have them up there now in the warm months, but if so, that's closer than Calgary ALB! You'd take your "sled" on the chairlift to the top, & ride them down the 1/2 pipe at 60-70+ mph top end, & hope that you didn't go airborne, launched off the curves with the help of the ramp effect of the 1/2 pipe's curve! We used to do them on the post tournament day(s) at the September Park City Rugby Tournament - it was verboten pre-tourney & on playing days cuz several guys went airborne & broke bones! Imagine 12 teams of 20-25 Rugby players jamming the lines, lifts & slopes/track in the mad quest for speed at all costs. Hint - the bigger/heavier guys - & those who weighted themselves with rocks/etc. - got more speed, caught more air, & broke more bones! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) It was fun nonetheless, but don't know if I'd try it today at almost 65! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) If they still have them at some of the Ski Resorts in CA, Rockies, etc. - then maybe a field trip to it off or the Red Rocks, Rte 66, WCR, etc. gatherings. Did anyone check during WCR at Mammoth last month? PS - this track & their carts on the video are much more civilized than the ones we rode, which was a basic plastic wheeled sled with a nylon rope to pull back on the brakes, which braking was marginal at best - compared to these. Thanx for sharing Mark! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Tom /////// |
