Agreed^ These might be a good value as I think I have a set of these a friend was going to give me. There seems to be a fair amount of take offs so the cores might be easily available for low cost. The biggest issue so far is finding reasonable cores. The ones sent to me by clients so far have cost them about $500 and then they are into me for about $1500 (supply chain issues changing pricing which equals more time on the next sets I do) your in $2000 pretty easily Saw this on Pelican. No association. May help someone interested: 993 Heat Exchangers. Those Gilletstyle which I don’t think I can make work. I may try to buy them and see if I can make them work Iv’e got a currently unused set of Gillets, with flipped flanges. I’d be willing to loan to you for R&D purposes…I’m sure we could work out something. PM me if you are interested… On another note, have you thought of keeping the flanges on and making a bolt in 2ndary? I know it’s another leak joint, but seems removing the collector/reducer would simplify the fab work and provide stress relief point for that long exhaust run… |

I choose welded over bolt on these because it allows a better angle towards the flange. As far as R&D goes I really don’t need a set to R&D but if you want a set converted I am your guy. |

Are these limited to big engines only?
I thought the bolt pattern and spacing of exhaust ports had never changed. Now, I do understand if the problem is "TOO BIG", but I thought they'd bolt up to any air cooled six. Once again Ben displays excellence in application... |

I use them on my 2.4s engine but sleeved them 1.5” for the first few inches |

What is the difference between the Gillette and the Bischoff 993 heat exchangers? How can I tell what my '95 3.6 had? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Thanks for the pics of both styles!
Makes it easy to see why Ben chose to cut the flange off. It's not a huge angularity change but it does get rid of 10-20 degrees of bend TWICE! Now, from those pics I'd be prone to want to use the "Gillet" version over the other. It looks like the individual runners might be straighter at the collector (hard to see this in the pic) and the first added section from Ben might be already there on the Gillet. To me it looks like the Gillet version would be easier to do... @mb911 Which style do you prefer and why? |

@saladin - Thank you very much. Ahhh... now I see. Yes, I agree, the Gillette version seems to be the better version. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) That’s the opposite of what Ben told me. I don’t know his reasoning. Sometimes I ask him why for my own education but I typically go with his preference- like 99.9% of the time. Secondly, I’ve only seen the Bichoff on the engines I’ve bought and sold. I’m using a set that came to me with the flanges already flipped for my 67, 912-6. They are Bichoff’s as well. |

Bischoff are easier to convert. I am in process of buying some Gillett to try and convert as well but not sure there is enough room. I am buying them cheap enough for the risk.
